ACADEMIC ENGLISH

                                                     TASK 3

                                                   PROOF READING

Advice! An important skill in academic English is proofreading. You need to be able
to identify mistakes in any texts that you write.

You may need to read a text a number of times to check spelling, grammar, and
                 meaning.

Now read the following text about Jan’s first week at university. Correct the
grammar mistakes with past simple and past continuous.

It seems like a long time ago now. I remember my parents dropping me off with all my
stuff at the student accommodation. We walk to the flat with all my belongings and
then I said goodbye to my mum and dad. I remember Mum was cried as they left which THE UNIVERSITY EXPERIENCE
made me sad too. I sat alone for a while looking at all the bags, but soon decided to go
out and explore the building. I meet a girl in the kitchen who studying the same course
as me and we agreed to take the bus together the next day to the first lecture. I was felt
nervous but excited to finally be at university.

The first day I go to the lecture with the girl I had met. Luckily she knew her way to the
university, because I didn’t have any idea where I was. She introduced me to a group of
people who seemed really nice. Funnily, I am still friends with most of them now, all this
time later. The teachers gave us lots of books and information about what we had to do
and there is lots of people talking about ‘Fresher’s Week’ where there was lots of parties
                   and group activities.
