Topic 16 - The Big Event
By the end of the lesson you will be able to…
- Revise and practice the use of definite and indefinite
articles
Aims for today - Develop and use vocabulary to describe special events
- Listen for detail and opinion about different events
- Plan and present your own celebration event.
Noughts and Crosses: Draw a noughts and crosses grid on
the board and write topics in each square of the grid. Split
students into two teams (X and O). Each team takes it in
Optional Warmer turns to choose a topic and talk about that topic for 30
seconds without stopping, pausing or repeating themselves.
If they are successful they get to draw an X or O (depending
on their team) in that grid space. The winning team is the
team to get 3 X’s or O’s in a row.

Check understanding of difficult vocabulary before the task.

Teaching Tips
Make sure students understand the descriptions. For weaker
groups you can tell the class that there is one description per
text.

Listen to pairs speaking and put good language and ideas
on the board for the whole class.

Whole class feedback to check answers and ask checking
questions about the content of texts. (e.g. “When is the
Indian festival of Holi celebrated?”)
C.
Assessment Feedback by nominating individual students. Clarify
pronunciation at this point too.
D.
Listen to pairs speaking and put good language on the board.
Check pronunciation and question formation as you monitor.
Students can be asked about the most interesting answers from
their partners and tell the class.
