Skill Writing
Time 20 mins
Students should be encouraged to use past simple and
continuous where appropriate in their writing. It is important
to remind students to use linking words and accurate
Teaching Tips punctuation. For stronger students you could give a list of
key collocations for them to include in the writing or a time
limit could be set to challenge them.
In class:
Monitor use of tense in their writing and ask students to
check their spelling and grammar when finished. You could
ask partners to peer check work with stronger classes.
External marking:
Collect the students’ Practice Books to mark their writing and
write your feedback in the Teacher’s Box.
Assessment Points to consider when marking:
- Grammar
- Spelling
- Handwriting
- Spacing between words
- Word order
- Punctuation
At the end of the lesson ask students what the lesson has
covered and write this on the board.
