independent learners. Therefore, the English Course equips students to make a successful
transition from academic studies to real world contexts.

The delivery of task-based skills are viewed as being especially important in engaging students to
understand the reasoning behind the tasks they are doing, and how they meet learning outcomes and
form part of their overall progression. Students will be encouraged to take responsibility for their own
learning through planning, discussing and tracking their progress on the English Course building a body
of work to evidence their own learning.

The delivery of transferrable key skills (life skills) will be developed by participation in the English
Course. Effective learning; academic study skills including IT; communication and presentation skills,
critical analysis and systematic thinking are explicitly articulated in the English Course provided,
together with a clear emphasis on the development of English language skills and those language skills
               needed for academic study.

With regard to the role of personal development for each of the participating students, the delivery
of this aspect of the English Course will be encouraged through the self-evaluative nature of the
course. It is advised that students should be allocated a skills tutor to advise, guide and support the
students through the English Course but also act as a mentor and monitor individual progress
throughout the whole of the English Course. This will support them to become intuitive, reflective
students and develop the skill of continuous reflective practice.
