Topic 16 - Travel Experiences
- Develop and use the past perfect simple tense to talk
about past experiences in a narrative in speaking
and writing.
Aims for today - Use sensory adjectives to tell a descriptive story
about a holiday.
- Identify and use a range of phrasal verbs to talk
about travel experiences.
In pairs or in groups students could play the ‘association
game’ on the theme of travel (e.g. sun cream, beach, sand
etc.) It could be done as a competition, swapping partners
Optional Warmer as they go. Alternatively, students in groups are given a time
limit and they need to come up with an alphabetical list of
words associated with travel. They are awarded a point if no
one else has that word.

Explain that this is a dictation task and students need to write
down everything that is said. Play the recording and allow
time for the students to talk about what they heard and

reformulate it. Once they have swapped roles and have a
complete text get them to think about how much they have
grasped. Doing this by percentage is useful.
Play or read the whole text at the end again so that students
can check their own answers. Once they have an accurate

Answers Every year I like to get away with groups of old school
friends. I look forward to this more than anything else. Last
