Teaching Tips Check that students are familiar with the term ‘family tree’.
Ask some checking questions to the whole class before beginning
the family tree exercise. This will help to check understanding and
gives further spoken practice. For example: “What is Jonathan’s
Dad’s name?”.

Optional Extra / Ask students to write questions about their family tree for their
Extension partner to answer. E.g. Who is (Sarah)? / What is my uncle called?
