Timings depend on student ability but have been approximated to include activity, feedback with
               concept checking, and pronunciation focus where necessary.


               Topic 1 - Class Expectations

                                                      -   Review and practice the use of modal verbs for
                                                          permission / ability / obligation.
                 Aims for today                       -   Review and develop opinion/discussion language to
                                                          make group decisions.
                                                      -   Write a set of rules for your teacher.

                                                  Ask students to think of as many situations where there are
                                                  rules (e.g. a type of sport, games, law etc.) and get them to
                                                  list as many of the rules as they can think of. Students share
                 Optional Warmer                  with each other before feeding back to the class. Aim is to
                                                  elicit modal verbs as you go.

                                                  Give students time to discuss in pairs and monitor the use of
